Milos Geological Tour

The greatest and most intriguing characteristic of Milos for the conscious visitor is its volcanic nature and geological wealth, which this carefully designed tour allows to explore. Based on the Miloterranean Geo Walks, an extensive geological path network of the Milos Mining Museum that reveals the terrain of Milos and the geological history behind it in 7 routes, this tour includes parts of Route No3 (Sulphur Mines), Route No2 (Volcano) and No4 (Aggeria). Our tour includes stops in:

-Milos Mining Museum, for a short, guided tour at the Milos Mining Museum and the Obsidian collection. (Stop is made provided that the Museum is open at the time of the booked tour; opening hours & season for the Museum are not available before the season actually starts)

-Salt fields, beach (40 minutes visit)

-Crater of Fyriplaka, and, as we pass through the steep entrance of the crater and continue down a slippery road that leads to a clearing right in the center of the crater, where the century-old cedar trees abide

-Kalamos (volcano ending), to admire the fumaroles and visit the observation standpoint of Ag. Kyriaki beach

-Sulphur Mines, the phantom city of Milos, where the actual mines were open, and the miners had created an entire, almost completely independent community, until the 1950s, when the site was abandoned almost overnight and the operation of the mines ceased abruptly. (Access to the site depends on condition of the road)

-Aggeria mine (largest active bentonite mine in Europe)

-Modern Mineral processing factory

Note: Part of the tour takes place in an industrial restricted area, inaccessible by individual travelers. Comfortable attire is recommended. Access to some locations, even with the 4×4 vehicle might be limited, due to the condition of the dirt roads at the time of the tour; it is possible thus to have itinerary modifications.

Land Tours General Policies: All land tours depart from and return to Pollonia village. Pick up/drop off from Pollonia, Mytakas (White Coast Hotel), Adamas is included in the rate of the land tours. Pick up/drop off from the Milos Cove hotel is an additional 120 euros/service (1-4 pax)

Land Tours Cancellation policy:
-For cancellations up to 5 days before the tour, no cancellation fees apply.
-For cancellations up to 3 days before the tour, 50% cancellation fees will apply.
-100% cancellation fees apply afterwards. All cancellations must be made in writing.

*There are currently no certified guides on Milos. All tours are carried out by our group of experienced escorts, with guaranteed expertise and knowledge of the history, geology, and culture of the island.

*Cancellations or modifications of the itinerary of the tour are possible, depending on the prevailing weather conditions.

*Covid update: All our vehicles are meticulously disinfected after every tour and are equipped with the recommended PPE, all our personnel abide by the recommended personal protection measures and all land tours are only available on private basis, to avoid exposure of the guests to other groups of people. Like our personnel, guests are also required to wear a mask in the vehicles. For indoors sites (e.g Catacombs), vaccination or Covid testing documents may be required of the guests for entry, according to government legislation.
