Kournas Lake is not only famous for its panoramic surroundings but also for being the only fresh water lake on Crete Island. This lake has enough appeal to tempt visitors away from the sea & the beach. It’s the view that captures someone’s sight, and the magic of the mirror of the lake, which seems to change color at different times of the day, playing with the sun and the clouds, reflecting back the mountain tops, inspiring photographers, artists, and even poets. Continuing west to the mainland visitors will admire the magnificent Museum of ancient Eleutherna – Homer in Crete, the first archaeological site museum. The originality of this museum lies in the objects of the permanent exhibition which are updated periodically with new and older finds, so that the public’s interest is continuous and relates to the discoveries and expansion of the excavation work on the site. The exhibition will be accompanied by original and modern audiovisual exhibits.
