MT ETNA/ ALCANTARA GORGES (Full Day)

Meeting with our driver in Hotel and drive up the Etna South. Passing through the charming little villages of Santa Venerina and Zafferana Etnea, reach Rifugio Sapienza at a height of 2000 metres. Mount Etna is the highest active volcano in Europe. Upon arrival, visit the area of Crateri Silvestri (about 2,00 mtrs or 6.000 ft) and see the effects of recent eruptions. Time at leisure. In the afternoon, visit the Alcantara river park, an extremely attractive place. It is famous for its Gole, or gorges, dug into the rock by the geological erosion of River Alcantara, whose name comes from the Arabic Al Qantarah. This took place when, long ago, a small volcano erupted and poured out a mass of lava that formed a huge dam. Back to your Hotel in Catania.

Important: a English Speaking Driver is a chauffeur specialized to drive you around Sicily. He is able to provide basic historical information and show you the main highlights. However, our English Speaking driver is not a Licensed Tourist Guide (Licensed Tourist Guide: are the only professionals -- with a Regional license -- permitted to conduct visits and tours in all sites and museums within a city) and he cannot escort you inside the monuments because this is not allowed by Italian Rules.
On request, you can hire a Licensed Tourist Guide, paying the supplement to have this extra service and generally meet your local guide on the spot to visit Churches, Museums and/or Archaeological Sites
