Hotel Casa da Ínsua, located 25 kilometers from the city of Viseu, in the center of the Portuguese country, is a baroque-style solar building built in the 18th century by Luis de Albuquerque de Mello Pereira and Cáceres.
The essence of the founder is maintained in its romantic gardens, architecture and interior decoration. Casa da Ínsua allows the guest a privileged access to the most representative elements of the tropical landscapes of the last three centuries, through a great variety of animal and plant species.
The housed traveler has access to an old blacksmith shop, where all the machinery and instruments used in such tasks have been recovered. This hotel, which has 35 stately rooms (including nine suites and five apartments), also offers its guests a reading room, games, two outdoor swimming pools, a gym, a chapel, a winery to taste the wines and a space to enjoy the regional products made with secular recipes.
A varied and traditional cuisine makes the Dâo region one of its main attractions. Flavors such as green broth, rice, veal and, of course, cod is a delight for the senses.
The products offered by the orchards and the land of this area are remarkable as the brave apple of Esmolfe that is grown on the farm itself, the sheep’s own cheeses with designation of origin, are known as the Sierra de Estella cheese, and finally, sweets like castendo will make a unique gastronomic experience at the Parador Casa da Ínsua.
Tasting these dishes of Portuguese cuisine, in addition to international elaborations, accompanied by the elaborated wines in their own, make it an experience for the tastes and to know the Portuguese gastronomy. All in an unforgettable environment.

The current Casa da Ínsua, built in the 18th century by Luís de Albuquerque de Mello Pereira and Cáceres, Governor and Captain General of Mato Grosso and Guiabá, in Brazil, occupied the place where the previous Casa da Ínsua, erected by João de Albuquerque e Castro, Mayor of Sabugal, maintaining some original elements, such as the chapel and the terrace. Even today references can be found to its previous owners, especially on the facade facing west, in a coat of arms with a shield on the shovel that bears the arms of the Albuquerques and the florid cross of the Pereiras, as well as on the paintings on the roof of the entrance with the arms of the family.
It is also possible to find traces of Luis Albuquerque’s stay in Brazil through various objects, mostly artisanal hunting and fishing tools of the Brazilian Indians and primitive indigenous weapons, as well as some military devices of the Castilian army.
