MT ETNA/ CATANIA CLASSIC (Full Day)

Depart to Mount, the highest active volcano in Europe. Passing through the charming little villages of Santa Venerina and Zafferana Etnea, reach Rifugio Sapienza at a height of 2000 metres. Upon arrival, visit the area of Crateri Silvestri (about 2,00 mtrs or 6.000 ft) and see the effects of recent eruptions. Time at leisure. From Rifugio Sapienza you can join an organized excursion (over two hours) to the top. The more adventurous can further take a 4X4 drive to reach the summit at 2,900 meters where Alpine guides escort people on foot to interesting areas. Continue to Catania, Sicily’s second largest city. The town is known for its original baroque style and for its streets built with black lava that nearly devastated the city in the 17th century. Walking tour through Via Etnea, the Baroque street "Via Crociferi", the Piazza Duomo with the Cathedral and the "Liotru" statue, symbol of the city, the Roman Amphitheatre, the Opera House , the University, and the noble Palace of Biscari.
