The Pousada do Castelo de Óbidos is located in Vila de Óbidos and is one of the 7 wonders of Portugal. This Pousada is of enormous historical importance and includes medieval features from the 9th century. The castle was given as a wedding present by King D. Dinis to Queen Santa Isabel during their wedding that took place on site. This castle is one of the most impressive and romantic sites you can visit.
It includes common areas such as the restaurant and Castelo bar. Don’t forget the impressive esplanade together with the reception. At the Pousada de Óbidos you can choose to stay in the castle and have an authentic medieval experience or stay in the Casa do Castelo (located right next to the castle), where you will have an experience closer to that of living in town.
ROOMS
The Castle offers 3 suites located in the tower which afford a unique experience. The remaining 5 rooms are small, as a result of the layout of the castle itself. At the Casa do Castelo all 8 rooms have traditional decor from the Vila de Óbidos with traditional tiles and a few have fireplaces. Both offer Wi-Fi and TV. A key feature of the rooms at Óbidos Castle is their tremendous antiquity. Be impressed by the many feet that have trod the ground in which you now wake up, with its masonry work, windows and brick tiles setting the tone for a stay within 80-inch thick walls – a promise of total silence and tranquility. The rooms at Casa do Castelo also have a very particular historical context, as part of the typical hamlet of Óbidos, with their original tiles and warm, inviting fireplaces.
All rooms are named after a king or queen who sojourned here, and you can learn more about their particular history with the QR Codes you will find in the entrance to each room. And given the unique characteristics of this peculiar site, all rooms have a decor featuring classical and medieval lines or more fashionable and contemporary designs, but always extremely comfortable. After all, traveling back in time does not have to be a historical reenactment, and surely the soft beds, the comfortable pillows and the air conditioning will make it much more memorable.

Take the opportunity to explore the castle and appreciate the historic architecture and views of the town. Don’t forget to try the renowned Ginja liqueur and admire the view of the Porta da Traição, where the castle was conquered. It offers free parking outside of the castle walls. Lisbon International Airport is 55 minutes away.
