In 1944, during world war II, Montecassino happened to be on the firing line between two armies: this place of prayer and study which had become in these circumstances a shelter for hundreds of civilians, in only three hours was reduced to a heap of debris under which many of the refuges met their death.
Now has been rebuilt saving all the memories of the past.
