Ceramics School of Montelupo Fiorentino Code CDM

Our programs are designed to train anybody who wants to do ceramics, and have them reach a good level. We are constantly in the process of updating, verifying and integrating our teaching methods.

The school was created with the precise intent to train specialized labour in the area of artistic ceramics. The School has a high degree of technical professionality, having more than two decades of experience in the sector, with the teaching personnel taken from the production sector with the intent to transmit all the technical and practical knowledge necessary in order to lend continuity to an art that would otherwise risk extinction, due to the complex professional training required in this field.

The objectives of the Scuola di Ceramica's teaching go beyond those of the typical school of fine arts or art academy. The major part of the student body attending our courses are in fact students, who, having attended one of the above mentioned schools, have to face a job market without a specific specialization.
For this reason our courses are not aimed at creating works of art per se, but rather aimed at transmitting all the knowledge which is vital to make the students as autonomous as possible, hence allowing them to deal with all aspects of this marvellous art.

Italian ceramics have ancient origins and to this day they have preserved their traditional craftsmanship. The expert master craftsmen, using the grey porous matter, obtain wonderful creations using techniques that have been handed down from father to son for generations.
Montelupo Fiorentino, which is called the "town of ceramics", is situated in the heart of the production area of Florentine masterpieces, surrounded by the lovely Tuscan countryside.
In Montelupo Fiorentino the love for ceramics has remained unchanged since Renaissance times, as have the crafting techniques of shaping, turning and painting the clay by hand. From time to time new decorations are combined with our traditional lines. These are destined, like those of the past, to become timeless.

Over the last few years we have expanded the range of our courses to include short programs and courses with various finalities in order to respond to the demands which have been made from time to time. We have also organized evening courses for people working in other sectors but who would like to give ceramics a try; there are courses for updating teachers who work in elementary, junior and senior high schools teaching technical subjects. There are also courses for tourists who would like to spend a vacation in a different way.
In all cases we are pleased to say that all participants have declared themselves highly satisfied with their experience at our school, not only because they had the opportunity to take home some beautiful objects of their creation, but also because they discovered themselves much more interested in real artistic ceramics. Having completed this experience and having acquired greater technical knowledge, they were able to truly appreciate ceramics in a much more critical fashion, and not only from an aesthetic point of view.
